Fines for oversize violations New Hampshire.

  • Penalty for Overload:

    1. First Offense: A fine not exceeding one hundred dollars ($100) is imposed for operating a vehicle on state roads with a weight exceeding prescribed limits.

    2. Subsequent Offenses: For subsequent violations within a registration year, a fine not exceeding two hundred and fifty dollars ($250) is imposed.

  • Exceeding Prescribed Weight Limits (RSA 266:18-a, RSA 266:18-b):

    • First Offense: A fine of either one hundred dollars ($100) or two cents ($.02) for each pound exceeding the prescribed weight, whichever is greater.

    • Second Offense: A fine of either two hundred dollars ($200) or two cents ($.02) per pound exceeding the prescribed weight, whichever is greater.

    • Third and Subsequent Offenses: A fine of either two hundred dollars ($200) or two cents ($.02) per pound exceeding the prescribed weight, up to an excess of fifteen thousand pounds (15,000 lbs). For excess weight exceeding fifteen thousand pounds (15,000 lbs) but less than thirty thousand pounds (30,000 lbs), a fine of three cents ($.03) per pound is imposed, and for excess weight exceeding thirty thousand pounds (30,000 lbs), a fine of four cents ($.04) per pound is imposed.

  • Interstate and Defense Highways (RSA 266:18):

    • A fine as specified for first offenses applies to vehicles exceeding weight limits on these highways.

  • Bridge Weight Violations:

    • For exceeding the posted or annually published caution crossing limit for a bridge, a fine of up to two hundred dollars ($200) may be imposed.

    • For exceeding the weight limit of an excluded bridge (or a bridge posted for no trucks), a fine of up to four hundred dollars ($400) may be imposed.
