Fines for oversize violations in North Dakota.

  • Operating a motor vehicle without the required permit incurs a fee of $100 as per the specified chapter.

  • Violations of this chapter not specifically penalized are subject to a fee of $20.

  • Violating the terms of any permit automatically invalidates the permit.

  • In cases where a permit is issued by a county under a home rule ordinance or any city, including a home rule city, the fee for a violation of state law is determined by this section.

  • Any vehicle exceeding weight limitations set forth in orders, ordinances, or resolutions under section 39-12-03 or section 39-12-05 while being driven on any highway, street, or road in this state may be impounded by a peace officer and taken to a storage facility.

  • Citations for over-dimensional and/or overweight violations incur a fine of $20 and $100.

  • Overweight fines may be imposed for exceeding axle, gross, exterior bridge, and interior bridge length limits, with the greater fine being applied.

  • Drivers are prohibited from shifting loads to evade over-axle citations.
