Escort Guidelines:

• Loads with a width of 12’ to 14’ must be accompanied by a Lead escort on 2-lane and super 2-lane highways, and a Chase escort on multi-lane highways.

• Loads exceeding 14’ in width require two escort vehicles, one in the Lead and one in the Chase, on 2-lane and super 2-lane highways.

• A Chase escort is mandatory on all multi-lane highways.

• Loads exceeding 16’ in width must be accompanied by two escort vehicles, one in the Lead and one in the Chase, on all roads and highways.

• Loads with an overall height of 15’9” or more need two escort vehicles, one Height-Pole and one Chase. Prior contact with public utilities and railroads along the route is essential.

• A truck-tractor/semi-trailer combination over 80’ in overall length requires one Lead escort on 2-lane highways. For combinations other than truck-tractor/semi-trailers exceeding 80’ in length, one Lead escort is needed on 2-lane or super 2-lane highways.

• A truck-tractor/semi-trailer combination or any other combination exceeding 100’ in overall length requires two escort vehicles, one Lead and one Chase, on 2-lane and super 2-lane highways.

State Police Escorts:

• Width 16’ – 20’: No Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) escort is required.

• Width 20’ – 23’: Police escort is at OHP discretion.

• Width 23’ or greater: Must have OHP escort.

• Length 150’ – 200’: Police escort is at OHP discretion.

• Length 200’ or greater: Must have OHP escort.

• Width over 16’ will be referred to the appropriate Troop S Region.

Super Loads:

• Subject to approval on specific routes, super loads are defined as:

• WIDTH: Over 16’

• HEIGHT: 21’

• LENGTH: No maximum

SASHTO: 100’ long, 14’ wide, 14’ high, or 120,000 lbs
