Escort Requirements:

On 2-lane highways:

• Width over 12' up to 16' requires 2 escorts (Lead and Chase).

• Width over 16' requires 4 escorts (2 Lead and 2 Chase).

• Length over 75' but less than 85’ requires 1 escort (Lead).

• Length over 85' but less than 120' requires 2 escorts (Lead and Chase).

• Length over 120' requires 3 escorts (1 Lead and 2 Chase).

• Height over 14'11" requires 1 Lead with a Height-Pole.

• If the load does not maintain the posted speed limit, then 1 Chase escort is required.

On 4 or more lane divided highways:

• Width over 12' up to 14' requires 1 escort (Chase).

• Width over 14' up to 16' requires 2 escorts (Lead and Chase).

• Width over 16' requires 4 escorts (2 Lead and 2 Chase).

• Length over 110' up to 120' requires 1 escort (1 Chase).

• Length over 120' requires 3 escorts (1 Lead, 2 Chase plus pivot/steerable dolly).

• Overhang over 10' requires 1 escort (Chase).

• Height over 14'11" requires 1 Height-Pole.

Super loads:

• A super load is defined as anything weighing 200,000 lbs. or above.
