When Are Pilot Cars or Escort Vehicles Required in Maryland?

    • Over 13 feet requires one pilot car in the front

    • Over 14 feet requires one pilot car in the front and one in the rear

  • Height: Exceeds 16 feet

How Much Do Trucking Permits Cost in Maryland?

Special Trucking Permit Fees:

  • Additional Fees:

    • $5 for each ton over 40 tons

    • $5 for a 3-day extension

  • Width: 16 feet.

  • Height: 14’ 6 feet.

  • Weight: Less than 120,000 (non-Interstate) to 150,000 (Interstate), single – 27,000 lbs., tandem – 52,000 lbs., tridem – 63,000 lbs.


NOTES: Loads exceeding any of these weights/dimensions are classified as super loads. Over 120,000 pounds gross on any non-Interstate route is a superload.
