In Massachusetts, maximum truck laws are enforced through fines, with no specific provisions for prison terms regarding maximum weight violations. The penalties for weight violations are as follows:

  • First offense: $35 fine plus a $5 safety surcharge.

  • Second offense: $75 fine plus a $5 safety surcharge.

  • Third offense: $150 fine plus a $5 safety surcharge.

Additionally, under c90 §19A, weight violations with irreducible loads incur a fine of $10 per thousand pounds (or fraction thereof) overweight, not exceeding $500.
