Escort Requirements:

When escorts are required & number of escorts:

• 1 escort: Width from 14'1" to 17'11" or Length from 90'1" to 110'.

• 2 escorts: Width from 18' to 19'11" or Length 110'1" or high-risk routes.

• 3 escorts: State police required if counterflow is necessary, regardless of width, length, or height.

• State police: Required for widths of 20' and wider or when counterflow is required.

Notes:

• Additional escorts may be required at any time due to route, size, and/or circumstances.

• A route survey is required for loads higher than 15'6".

• Utility letters are required for loads higher than 18'.

• Height pole is only required for survey.

Super loads:

• Trunnion Axle: 60,000 lbs.

• Width: No maximum; depends on routes.

• Height: No maximum; depends on routes.

• Length: No maximum; depends on routes.

• Engineering analysis is required for vehicles or loads in excess of 170,000 lbs. The route survey may be required and is valid for 14 days.

• Loads of 300,000 lbs. or more must have preapproval from the Bridge Office before applying for a permit in the permitting system.
