Escort Requirements:

When Escorts are Needed & Number of Escorts:

On 2-Lane Highways:

• Width over 12’6” up to 13'6”: 1 escort (Lead)

• Width exceeds 13’6”: 2 escorts (Lead and Chase)

• Width over 17’ but less than 18’: 3 escorts (2 Lead and Chase)

• Length 90’ to 120’: 1 escort (Chase)

• Length exceeds 120’1”: 2 escorts (Lead and Chase)

On 4-Lane and Interstate Highways:

• Width of 12'6" up to 13'6": 1 escort (Chase)

• Width exceeds 13’6”: 2 escorts (Lead and Chase)

• Width over 17’ but less than 18’: 3 escorts (2 Lead and Chase)

• Length 90’ to 120’: 1 escort (Chase)

• Length exceeds 120’1”: 2 escorts (Lead and Chase)

• Height exceeds 15’: 1 escort (Height-Pole)

• Pavement less than 24’ (not including shoulder): 1 Lead

• Bridge less than 20’ wide: 1 flag person at bridge

Police Escorts:

• Any load with an overall width over 18’ or height over 17’ may require THP escorts.

• THP Escort will require 2-3 troopers, and it can take an extra 10 days to schedule the move.

Super Loads:

Any load exceeding 16' wide, 15'6” high, or 165,000 lbs. is considered a super load, requiring a route survey and possibly a law enforcement escort.
