When Are Pilot Cars or Escort Vehicles Required in Wisconsin?

  • Length: 95′ to 110′. One rear pilot car (escort) is required.
    Width: Loads over 12’ 6” on some roads require 1 (but not all), 15’ to 16’ feet in width need 1 front on non-divided highways or 1 rear on divided highways.  16’ to 22’ wide requires 1 police escort on some routes.  Non-divided roads require 1 police in front and divided 1 police in the rear.  You never know with this state, as the same load may be able to run at a later date with a civilian escort.
