Fines for oversize violations in Ohio.

  • The minimum fine is $100.

  • Falsification of weights on bills of lading, dock receipts, etc., incurs a penalty of $5,000 and 30 days in jail.

  • Operators may be fined for exceeding either over-axle or over-gross weight limits.

  • Operators may be allowed to shift up to 1,000 lbs to avoid an over-axle citation.

  • Violation of legal dimension and weight limits under Sections 5577.04 and 5577.05 of the Ohio Revised Code results in criminal liability under Section 5577.99 and civil liability under Section 5577.12.

  • Upon arrest for a permit or traffic violation, equipment is moved to a secure location directed by the arresting officer.

  • The officer revokes the permit and halts further movement until authorization or a new permit is obtained.

  • If authorization or permit is denied, the vehicle and load must comply with legal dimension and weight limits.

  • The Central Permit Office maintains a record of permit violations and supporting evidence.

  • This record influences the evaluation of future applications by the permittee.
