The maximum load limits in Idaho before a trucking permit is required are as follows:

  • Width: 8 feet 6 inches

  • Height: 14 feet

  • Weight: 80,000 lbs (GVW)

  • Overhang: 4 feet front, no more than 10 feet rear

When Are Pilot Cars or Escort Vehicles Required in Idaho?

Heavy-haul or oversize loads may need an escort vehicle or pilot car if:

  • Length: Over 100 feet on 2-lane roads requires 1 escort car; over 115 feet on the interstate requires 1 escort car.

  • Width: Over 12 feet 1 inch on 2-lane roads requires 1 escort car; over 15 feet 1 inch on 4-lane roads requires 1 escort car.

  • Height: Over 16 feet requires 1 escort car.
